Could see neighbor's baby clearly.. and they could probably see ours!

We didn't mind this product at first. It has decent video and decent audio. A neighbor nearby recently had a baby, however, and now I constantly pick up their monitor.. video and all! I regularly have to switch channels (there are only 3) to find the clearest picture/sound of my baby. Many times I have to listen to static all night long!
Probably not an issue if you're not near anyone using this same monitor but watch what you say and wear! It was very creepy to turn it on one day and see a crystal clear picture of a baby that wasn't mine. |

Pros:
It works
Picture is clear
Sensitive Mic, you can hear the baby breathing at high volume
Cons:
The speaker on the monitor is on the bottom so if you have it sitting on something made of cloth it may muffle the sound
The Monitor speaker has a constant background of white noise which is very annoying even at the lowest volume when you are trying to sleep
Our cordless phone makes the monitor freak out and emit a loud screeching noise when it rings or you are talking on it, no matter which frequency setting we use on the monitor. |
Great Baby Video Monitor

| We have been perfectly happy with this video monitor. It works well day or night. We have only had some interference issues when there was construction on the road next to our house... but otherwise, we haven't had any trouble. Our neighbors have a different Summer monitor and we haven't had any issues with seeing each other's homes or anything. Our four year old loves to go up and talk with our one year old when he awakens from his nap, and I can listen in/watch while finishing up making lunch! Video monitors are a great idea! Just wish it didn't take up so much counter space... |

I have owned a total of 4 (FOUR!) Summer Infant Day & Night Baby Video Monitors, which I bought and returned and bought and returned and bought and returned...from Toys R Us as a result of all FOUR of them being defective in one way or another:
1. A defective camera that DID NOT DISPLAY AN IMAGE AT ALL
2. A defective monitor that buzzed and crackled on all channel settings
3. A defective monitor that emitted a loud sound and ORANGE light from inside the video unit
4. A set of camera plus monitor that DID NOT WORK AT ALL
This is the crappiest product ever, stay away from Summer products, they are clearly poorly manufactured and have shoddy quality control.
The only reason I put up with all those returns is because I could not get a refund back from Toys R Us, they only have a "replacement" policy.
What a WASTE of time and money -- stay away stay away stay away from this product at all costs. NOT worth your valuable parenting time...

OK while it lasted

| The image quality on the monitor is good; the sound IS incredibly sensitive. My husband couldn't bear to have the audio on, even at the lowest setting, because of the static unless we were in another room (at which point, what's the use of a video monitor). However, we quickly became addicted to watching the baby and fell in love with having the monitor on whenever she was asleep. This lasted about 5 months. Our daughter will be 6 months old next week, and we've been relying on our audio-only monitor for about three weeks. The Day & Night video monitor suddenly stopped working reliably, then just stopped working at all. The video screen wouldn't come on, and the unit would emit a rhythmic clicking noise, but initially if you flicked it off and on, it would come around. Now there's nothing...no noise, no picture. I recognize that this is at the low end of the price point for similar items, but when I spend even this amount of money, I expect the purchase to last more than a few months. Customer service has yet to respond to my inquiry. I'll re-post if they have any impact on my disappointment. |
Great for the price!

I received this as a gift for my second baby. I was not really sure if it was something I really "needed", but we borrowed the monitor we'd used for our first baby, so we needed something, and since we were given this, I figured I would try it out.
My son is 11 weeks old and I have been using this since the third night he was home from the hospital. I could not get any sleep w/ him in our room, and out of desperation put him in his crib in his own room that third night. I hooked up the monitor and loved the fact that I could see him as well as hear him.
I did have to adjust the channel to "C" instead of "A" because of interference, but once I adjusted it, there has been minimal interference.
My only complaint is that the volume is very loud, even on the lowest setting. I just need to barely be able to hear him since I sleep so lightly now that I have babies in the house. And the lowest setting for this is just too loud. I even taped over the volume holes on the bottom of the unit, but it did not help much.
However, it makes no difference to us now, because we just leave the sound off during the night, having just the video portion on. It works well for me since I can hear him if he starts fussing, and can see whether he is in need of me getting out of bed or am I just hearing him fuss for a minute and go back to sleep. I love it. It has saved me many trips of getting in and out of bed to check to see if he's breathing or not. I can usually tell by staring at the monitor for a minute or two.
This device does not alert you if the baby stops breathing like some claim to do, but that was the type of monitor we used w/ our first son, and it was, in my opinion, just a gimmick. This is more trustworthy to me because I can see him w/ my own 2 eyes.
I recommend this to anyone who wants a simple device to use at night to ease your mind, and help you sleep! :-) |

I have a slightly older 2006 version of this monitor and started noticing a buzzing noise at night coming from the transformer. It was getting very hot to the touch and then a week or so later it had a huge crack and the prongs were loose(on the monitor not the camera). So I called about getting a replacement since it is an obvious fire hazard. If this thing went it could burn down the house.
The number is 02180 on the bottom sticker. I called and they said they wouldn't replace it, it was out of warranty and they have never had a recall! Kind of arrogant on the phone bad service. The part is $20. Anyway be careful. They sent me a new plug for Free after asking for a manager! |
Invest an extra $50 and skip this one.

| I wish we had sprung for the extra $50 and gone with the better model. Do NOT plan to use this with the audio function... you may hear everything in the room down to a mouse fart, but you will NEVER get rid of the static that comes through. Additionally the monitor clarity is so poor we often ran into the babys room thinking that she was in some compromised position only to learn that she was just fine. Finally, after 1 yr, this item died on us. A bit of a blessing because now I will upgrade and pay the extra $50. Just not with this brand. |
Better than expected . . .

| After reading reviews of seemingly every video monitor system on the market, it became apparent that they all have their fans and their detractors. I was afraid to spend too much money on something that might not work well, but I still wanted a "quality" device, so I opted for this one. I have to say I have been very pleasantly surprised. The picture is clear, and the sound doesn't bother me at all -- maybe because I live in the city and am used to noise, but to me it's just a gentle white noise. Also, you can turn the sound off and just keep the picture (or vice versa) if you want. When my baby cries, the sound is crisp and clear. Basically, this monitor works exactly as advertised, nothing fancy, just an easy way to keep an eye on your baby at all times. I live in an apartment building and was worried about static and interference, but so far, none (I've been using it for about three weeks). Highly recommended. |
