Not great

Here's what's good about this monitor: it just works. The sound is good (some static aside), the camera/mic picks up just about everything, and the night vision works as expected. It's an analog system (900 MHz), so there's basically no chance of it losing its digital signal, freezing up, etc, or interfering with our house's wireless. While you only get the occasional complaint about that with digital baby monitors, I'm not taking any chances. There's always the chance that it'll interfere with 900 MHz phones, but really those are so old that I haven't had or seen one in more than 10 years.
That said, there are a lot of minor issues with this product. My biggest complaint is that we've gone through two of the LCD monitors, and on both the power button has failed after several months. It's apparently not the best design. I took one apart and managed to force it into the on position, but now it's stuck like that. Not only that, but the LCD itself is a widescreen, yet the camera clearly sends a 4:3 aspect ratio picture, and ends up making things look a bit distorted. Couldn't Summer have just made a 4:3 LCD, and let my baby look normal?
The handheld unit works fine, but for some reason doesn't like most rechargeable batteries (it works for a minute or two, then cuts out), and constantly replacing alkalines seems wasteful. I finally found some Sanyo pre-charged Eneloops that seem to work. There's a light on the handheld that is green with fresh batteries, and goes yellow when your charge is running low, then it's supposed to turn red when it's too low. The problem is, it turns yellow way too fast, and stays that way for most of the life of the battery. It doesn't turn red until it's already stopped receiving a signal, so I find myself constantly worrying that the battery has run out.
You can find better sound from cheaper audio-only monitors, but I'd still use this over most any other baby video monitor. It's been my experience that most baby products, which you'd think have pretty high testing standards and quality control, simply don't measure up. Most of the digital monitors I've looked at have too many performance or usability quirks. In my opinion, it's better to stick with this relatively older tech. |
Best purchase in a long time

| I bought this camera and monitor a few months back and cannot get over how much I love it!!!!!! I work from home and love having my daughter home with me, but I spend a lot of time on the phone in my office and can't always sit with her. She loves to sit and play with her toys while watching play house Disney and never really gets into trouble so having my job and her home with me works out perfectly. But while I was working I would keep getting up to go check on her because I was nervous she could get into something or hurt herself. I found this camera on Amazon and thought it would be a great idea. now she plays in the living room and i have the camera set up so it can see the whole room, and i have the monitor in my office so that while I work, I can see everything shes doing. It's great. And she knows I can see her so every now and then she waves at me. It's great. My husband and I love it so much, we use it for everything. When she goes to bed now, we put the camera in there. This way if she wakes up or needs us for anything we can see her from our room. It is such a great product. We are expecting again and I may buy one for their room as well!!!! |

| This monitor has the worst reception I have ever heard. It sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies on my night stand - snap, crackle and pop all night long. My parents bought it for me as a birthday gift b/c they heard it was the best brand. But we have tried it all over the house in different areas of the house and cannot find a place without interference. I've tried it at my in-laws house and my parents house hoping the problem was just our house. But it was even worse at their house. And the hand held has such horrible interference that we could not hear our baby screaming over it. It is shocking to me that such an expensive monitor could work so poorly. I think it is a giant waste of money. |

| We love this monitor! We first bought it as a gift for my brother and sis-in-law when they were expecting their first baby. They then loved it so much they in turn bought us one when we had our first son. It's addictive to sit and watch "Baby TV" at night though. |

| Save your money and just buy the one without the handheld unit. It is sound only and so much static, I don't even bother. The video monitor itself is great though. |
Awesome

| Great product with a very strong mic. The cam with mic is so strong that it will get all sounds around the baby. You can hear a tv playing on the background if it is less than 10 feet away. The Monitor LCD display has a great resolution (color when light, bw when dark). Range is also great. The only thing is that the portable device will have a feedback sound if it is too close (less then 10 feet) and inside the house. Outside it will get a great sound and range. |
Very pleased

| I purchased this as a result of reading the reviews of the best rated video + audio monitors available. My wife is using this unit at home, in addition to having a 5.4 MHz telephone system, a 2.4 MHz WLAN, and a 900 MHz phone in my shop downstairs. The audio and video quality are very good, the range is excellent -- works everywhere in my 2500 sq ft 3 floor home. There is no interference on either channel between this and the other stuff mentioned earlier. The unit appears fairly well made with a nice 7" screen, the camera is nice with a tilt-able base, and the portable audio receiver runs on AC or batteries. The main unit and camera run on AC only. Wall transformers (bricks) come with each (3 total). We are happy with this purchase, and this unit doesn't seem to suffer from a lot of the problems that the others do. I originally balked at the price, but was able to get one brand new, steeply discounted from a 3rd party seller. For what I paid, it was a really great value. Highly recommended. |

pros Large detailed monitor works well, well made
cons Sound interference at 900MHz
The monitor is nice and large, unlike our other "Hi Def" monitor which has a nearly microscopic screen. This one is large and easy to see enough details to be useful. It works quite well but unfortunately uses the 900 MHz frequency which means tons of interference no matter which channel we use. It's bad enough that we turn the sound nearly off when using it. I love it otherwise and would pay extra to get something exactly like it but using a cleaner channel. 900MHz is now nearly obsolete for household use and for this exact reason. If you live in a remote area or without any other wireless signals to interfere, it may work well for you. We still find the picture useful, but the sound is severely compromised by the noise. |
